When you wake up in the morning do you have that urge to take the world by the balls and say you’re going to be my little bitch!
I have a friend that has been through a lot of trials and tribulations in his life and he always seems to find a way to come out on top. He is a Okie for OKC and also a great friend and mentor. He was born and raised in Oklahoma and has been deemed the Hail Magnate by his peers and crew of professional sales and support staff. He is the true definition of an entrepreneur and great dad to his little girl.
When i met the owner Of Hail Restore ( James McElhany) of OKC and Dallas and I was amazed at how much he crams into a 16-18 hour day. I thought he was for sure crazy!! He doesn’t do the average and he doesn’t like to be sitting idle for any length of time. He is on a mission to create a solution so hassle free for the good folks in both states to have a better experience when a catastrophic hail storm invades an area. He was the first in his industry to implement the free rental car and deductible assistance programs that create a flood of business into their shops after a storm rolls through. He was brought up in humble beginnings working from a young age of 13. Not because he was forced but because he knew it was his destiny to be businessman. When he entered high school, which he explained “bored the hell out of him” except art and science, he was not quite the a+ student that everyone was hoping he would be. James explained, ” I knew formal education was not for me. I’m not someone to take orders and be told when and if i could go to the restroom”, “what are we a bunch of robots not capable of making our own decisions?” James was not a bad kid but was very headstrong and did what he wanted in terms of creating his own success. He was awarded for being the best welder in his district when attending a competition amongst high schools around the Sooner state. He was a hands-onan kind of guy but with the brains of an entrepreneur who knew there was more than just going to school and being molded into another average person. He left school and joined the workforce to join a fabrication shop that he knew he could do well. After a couple years of the fabrication life, he reignited his a love for cars from childhood. He set out to look for a career in mechanical or custom auto fabrication and was pulled in by a local dealership where he became certified for everything under the sun related to the automobile. He loved cars and knew still that there was much more for him still in the writing of his journey to success. We had talked about the mechanic job and how he said if he wouldn’t have taken that path he would have never found out about the paintless dent repair industry. He was working one day and a large hail storm had come through and destroyed all the sheet metal on the car lot. He said, “it was the biggest mess you have ever seen.”
Windshields blown out and a ton of dents everywhere you looked. Later that we James explained it was when a bunch of guys had come through like mysterious gypsies and started setting up these huge circus tents that he started becoming curious to what was going on. He explained that the crew had all sorts of lights and crazy tools that they were claiming they could take the mangled sheet metal and straighten it all out with refinishing the car. He was like ” Boom a light bulb went off and he said I was becoming obsessed about this new trade i discovered thanks to mother nature. There was going to be a new sheriff in town, dent town that is. He was destined to become the best in the industry. After training, he set out to create systems, that while working for other companies and seeing the lack of professionalism, he know that there was and will be a better way. He started in the garage of his house and like most entrepreneurs, he bankrolled all the tools and supplies to get him going. He did not want to take out a loan and owe someone money. James said, ” I am like any other person out there, nothing special or extra gift I just have burning desire to be successful.”
I am just going to do everything in my power to create the success and life I want for me and my wife. Nothing else is acceptable. in 2007 he started Hail Restore and ever since then they have grown leaps and bounds. James said that he has seen a lot of companies come and go. We will be here forever. He has now grown to two shops running in two states and the future looks good for these masters of metal. With millions in revenue and hundreds of thousands of happy customers, he is a true inspiration.
